LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team dominated CSU-Pueblo, 149-79, on Senior Day at the NM State Swimming and Diving Complex on Saturday afternoon. New Mexico State won the first 10 events before exhibition scoring on the last three.
"Today was a lot of fun, we had great support," said head coach
Rick Pratt. "It's good to celebrate our seniors' last meet. We were a little tired, we had a really heavy week of training but we need to do better focusing on details leading into the final stretch of the season. I thought a couple of the girls were coming around,
Anabel Ivanov was really good today and senior
Ashley Reynolds had some really good swims. Freshman
Ayanah Cason impressed me a lot, besides that we've got to get a couple of girls healthy and keep pushing hard.
Alix Knagg,
Ashley Reynolds,
Airam Oliva-Aun and
Rachel Ponte started the day off with a win in the 200 Medley Relay before
Mikaela Miele won the 1000 Free.
Anabel Ivanov and
Neza Kocijan then won the 200 Free and 50 Free respectively while freshman
Ayanah Cason captured the 200 IM.
Italia Aranzabal and Lilly Ellis finished one-two in the 1m.
Following a break,
Katherine Harston finished just ahead of teammate
Lauren Hemburrow in the 100 Fly while freshman
Aimee Burton won the 100 Free. Fellow freshman Maude Boiley-Dufour won the 100 Back with Ivanov wrapping up the day with a win in the 500 Free.
The Aggie divers now head to Los Angeles for the UCLA Diving Invite Jan. 17-19 before joining the swimmers for the Battle of I-25 in Albuquerque on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 12 p.m.
