NM State's Menard and Simecek Honored as Aggies Sweep WAC's Monthly Honors

Menard named Singles Player of the Month, teams with Simecek to collect Doubles Team of the Month

Complete WAC Release

DENVER – For the second-straight month, the NM State men's tennis team has swept the WAC's monthly awards.

In a release issued by the league office Tuesday morning, it was announced that senior Louis Menard was named the WAC Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Month for October while Menard and Simecek earned the title of WAC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Month for October.

Menard closed out the fall portion of his individual singles action in grand fashion by posting a perfect 3-0 record at the Arizona Invitational from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 1-3.

In order to claim the individual title in the event's Blue Draw, Menard bested the likes of Northern Arizona's Dominik Buzonics (6-4, 6-2) as well as New Mexico's Joel Pierleoni (7-6, 3-6, 6-3) before facing his toughest test of the weekend.

Pitted against Arizona's Gustaf Strom, the 35th-ranked singles player in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Menard manufactured a dominant 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 victory over the Wildcats' star to cap off a perfect weekend.

Thanks to that perfect weekend, Menard pushed his singles record in the fall of 2021 to an impressive 12-2.

Teaming with Simecek at the Arizona Invitational, Menard bounced back from an early defeat to post a 2-1 record in tandem play. Menard and Simecek found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-4 decision to Gonzaga's Arthus Bassetiere and Theo McDonald but didn't drop another tandem bout after that.

The Aggies' duo found themselves pitted against a pair of WAC duos and defeated them both. First Menard and Simecek got by Grand Canyon's Wyatt Anderson and Grzegorz Rudnicki by a 6-3 tally. On the final day of the Arizona Invitational, NM State's duo claimed an identical 6-3 triumph over Grand Canyon's Stan Samucewicz and Loic Van Zeggelaar.

Through the fall, Menard and Simecek constructed a 9-5 mark in tandem action.

Menard, Simecek and the rest of the Aggies concluded the fall portion of their 2021-22 schedule in early October. They'll continue to gear up for the championship part of their campaign which is set to begin in January of 2022.
