Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Freshman Petr Stavrovskij extended his singles winning streak to two matches with a come-from-behind victory on line six, but the NM State men's tennis fell 6-1 to Pac-12 foe rv Arizona State Saturday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

DOUBLES
Martin Simecek and Petr Stavrovskij played the Aggies' best match of the day in doubles action. Competing against Christian Lerby and Moritz Hoffmann on line two, NM State's duo stood toe-to-toe with them through the majority of the showdown before falling to the Sun Devils' pair 7-6.
• That win was one of three the Sun Devils claimed in order to collect the doubles point. Nicolas Buitrago and Corey Clarke were outpaced by Tim Ruehl and Jonah Wilson by a 6-4 score on line three while Louis Menard and Jordy Visser fell 6-3 to Nathan Ponwith and George Stoupe in top-flight play.

SINGLES
• Arizona State doubled its lead to 2-0 after Clarke found himself on the wrong end of a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Lerby on line five.
• In the third flight, Visser managed to pull even with Andrea Bolla at 5-5 in their second set, but Bolla won the last two games to earn a 6-1, 7-5 triumph. That win pushed the Sun Devils' lead to 3-0.
• Akkermans' matchup with Stoupe on line four was a battle early on, but the Aggies' freshman fell 7-5 in the opening set. Stoupe clinched the match for Arizona State with his 6-1 victory in the second set.
• Menard took on Ponwith on the top line, but was outpaced 6-3, 6-3 in a match which pushed the Sun Devils' lead to 5-0.
• Buitrago fell to Ruehl 6-3, 6-3 on line two before Stavrovskij broke up the Sun Devils' shutout bid on line six. The Aggies' freshman dropped his opening set but came back to force a tiebreaker set with a 7-5 victory in the middle frame.
