CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Louis Menard dominated in singles play, but that was the only win the NM State men's tennis team had to speak of in its 6-1 setback to UTSA at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center Sunday morning.
DOUBLES
• UTSA started the match by securing the doubles point and from there the Roadrunners never relinquished their advantage.
• Menard and Gijs Akkermans dropped a 6-2 decision on line one before Corey Clarke and Martin Simecek came up on the wrong end of a 6-2 score on line three.
• Jordy Visser and Nicolas Buitrago played Juri Reckow and Slava Gulin tough on line two, but ultimately dropped a 7-6 decision to the UTSA duo.
SINGLES
• UTSA opened up a 2-0 lead when Akkermans fell 6-1, 6-2 to Javier Rodriguez in sixth-flight action.
• Menard made sure the Aggies didn't go down without a fight when he cut the Roadrunners' lead to 2-1. The junior secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sebastian Rodriguez in top-flight action.
• Clarke fell 7-5, 6-4 to Guiln on line five before UTSA clinched the match with Visser's 6-4, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Javier Gonzalez in fourth-flight play.
• Simecek and Buitrago both lost in three sets to their UTSA counterparts.
COMING UP NEXT
• NM State will wrap up its three-match slate at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions by taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
