Aggies Finish Up Regular Season WAC Schedule in Texas

THE FIRST SERVE
• Just two more regular season Western Athletic Conference (WAC) matches remain on the NM State men's tennis team's 2021 schedule and the Aggies are bound for the campus of UTRGV this weekend to take part in those tilts.
• NM State begins its second weekend of WAC play Friday at noon by taking on Seattle U at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, Texas. The Aggies wrap up their regular season WAC schedule Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. with a showdown against Chicago State at the same venue.
• The Aggies are currently 1-1 in WAC play this year, sitting in third place in the five-team league. Both Grand Canyon and Seattle U are 2-0 in conference action while UTRGV and Chicago State are 0-2 in the WAC.
• Senior Nicolas Buitrago enters the weekend on a team-best four-match winning streak in singles play. That run has allowed the Bogota, Colombia, product to even his 2021 singles record at 6-6.
• Redshirt freshman Corey Clarke has been playing exceptionally well in one-on-one matches as of late, too. Clarke has captured victories in his last three outings to move to 5-6 in singles play.
• Junior Louis Menard remains atop the Aggies' singles wins chart this year, owning a 7-4 mark in one-on-one bouts.
• NM State's best doubles pairings heading into the weekend consist of the team of Clarke and Martin Simecek who have gone 3-5. Like the aforementioned duo, Buitrago and Jordy Visser possess an identical 3-5 mark in tandem play.
• The Aggies have won their last seven matches with Seattle U and are 6-0 in their last six showdowns with Chicago State.

SCOUTING SEATTLE U | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• One of the two WAC squads who have yet to lose a league match this season, the Redhawks are hoping to run their league record to 3-0 when they take on the Aggies Friday on the campus of UTRGV.
• In their first set of league matches, the Redhawks edged UTRGV and Chicago State by identical 4-3 scores.
• Julian Worn has been slotted in four different singles flights this season and has a 5-9 record to show for it. Four of his team-leading five wins have come on line three and he'll look to extend his singles winning streak to two matches Friday.
• Lucas Cerbelli has generated another four of Seattle U's 22 total singles victories. All four of those wins have come on line two.
• Doubles play has seen Cerbelli team with Eli Ogilvy to produce a 4-4 showing. That tandem is also the owner of a perfect 2-0 record in WAC doubles action and the two have won their last three matches.
• As a team, Seattle U is 13-28 (.317) in doubles play.

SCOUTING CHICAGO STATE | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• Chicago State travels to Edinburg, Texas, with hopes of stringing together consecutive wins for the first time this season. The Cougars' most recent match came Monday where they outpaced the University of Chicago by a 5-4 tally.
• Winless in WAC play dating back to 2017, the Cougars are hoping to change that this weekend, too. Pedro Alvarez is the team's singles top player, owning an 11-4 mark in one-on-one matches through 2021.
• Alvarez has had a hand in six of the Cougars' 16 doubles wins this season, too. In addition to his perfect 2-0 record in WAC singles matches, Alvarez teamed with Javier Sanchez to notch one of the team's two doubles triumphs in league action.

COMING UP NEXT
• Before hosting the 2021 WAC Men's Tennis Tournament, the Aggies will make their home debut on Saturday, April 17, by playing host to non-conference opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff. First serve at the NM State Tennis Center is set for 1:00 p.m.
