Aggies Close Regular Season with Contest at No. 7 Arizona

Tuesday's Contest will be NMSU's Final Game Before the WAC Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State Aggies baseball program closes out the regular season Tuesday night with a 6 p.m. contest at Hi Corbett Field against No. 7 Arizona.

Frank Dickson, Jr. is set to take the ball for the Aggies. The start will be Dickson's first of the season and his second career start.

Following the contest with the Wildcats, the Aggies will next return to action a week from Wednesday for the 2021 WAC Tournament in Mesa. NMSU has already clinched the fourth seed in the tournament, and will face either Northern Colorado, Seattle or Utah Valley.

AGGIE FACTS:
• The Aggies close the regular season Tuesday night at No. 7 Arizona. The Aggies will look to snap a five-game losing streak that started with NM State's series finale loss to Utah Valley.
• NMSU turned four more double plays (turned one in each game) and now have turned 46 twin killings this season. The Aggies have turned the third-most double plays in the country this season.

• NM State dropped all four games last weekend to California Baptist. After dropping the opener 10-4, the Aggies fell 4-2 and 11-6 in a pair of games, Saturday.
• In the opener of the double-dip, NM State received six strong innings from righty Chris Jefferson. Jefferson struck out eight and scattered just six hits. Tommy Tabak supplied one of the two Aggie runs, when he hit a solo homer in the fourth.
• Multiple Aggies enter the final week of the regular season looking to secure individual WAC titles.

• Outfielder Zerek Sanez is second in the conference in batting average (.383) and first in on-base percentage (.475).
• Sanez has recorded 72 hits this season, the most in the WAC and the 10th most in the country.
• Infielder Ethan Mann is tied for the WAC lead in home runs (11) and has driven in a WAC-best 50 runs. Teammate Brandon Dieter is second in the WAC in RBIs (42).
• On Sunday, the Aggies honored seniors Chris Jefferson and Jason Bush. Both Jefferson and Bush had strong weekends in their final appearances at 'The 'Skew". Jefferson pitched the six strong innings, while Bush recorded multiple hits in two of his three starts.
• Following the contest at Arizona on the Aggies will return to action on May 26th for the opening round of the WAC Tournament. NM State will be the four seed and will play at 6 p.m. PT against the fifth seed which is yet to be determined. Northern Colorado, Seattle and Utah Valley are all vying for the fifth and sixth seeds in the six-team tournament. GCU has already clinched the top seed, while Sac State and UTRGV will battle this weekend for the second seed.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
• Arizona enters the midweek contest ranked seventh in the country.
• The Wildcats have won 35 games this season and are 4-1 in midweek contests. The lone loss in that stretch was a 5-4 10-inning loss at Grand Canyon.
• As a team, the Wildcats are hitting .330, as eight of their nine projected starters for Tuesday's contest are hitting at least .305.
• Jacob Berry is leading the Wildcats in average (.392), hits (71), home runs (13), RBI (58) and on-base percentage (.482).
• Classmate Daniel Susac has also been a force for the Wildcats this season as well as he has hit a team-best 18 doubles and 12 home runs.
• On the mound, the Wildcats have pitched to a solid 4.50 team ERA and a .257 batting average against.
• Arizona has had a pair of relievers record at least save led by Vince Vannelle who has seven saves.
