LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Following his final season with the Aggies, right-handed pitcher
Jack Turner was selected by the Detroit Tigers with the 306
th pick in the 10
th round of the 2026 MLB Draft.
Turner becomes the third player during the
Jake Angier era to be selected in the MLB Draft, joining Keith Jones (2024) and Titus Dumitru (2024). He also becomes the 10
th Aggie in program history and seventh since 2016 to hear his name called in the first 10 rounds of the draft.
The Sayville, N.Y., native becomes the first NM State pitcher to be drafted since Ian Mejia and Samy Natera were both selected as part of the 2022 draft. He was also one of 22 players from Conference USA to be selected in this year's draft. Turner becomes the sixth Aggie to be selected by the Detroit Tigers organization and the first since 2013 when the Tigers selected Ryan Beck.
Last season, the flamethrower made 14 appearances, including seven starts and tallied 61 total strikeouts to finish his career with exactly 100 strikeouts in an Aggie uniform. As a senior, he compiled four wins and one save, while maintaining a 6.48 ERA and holding opponents to a .298 batting average.
Turner's 61 strikeouts paced all Aggie arms and ranked tied for 14
th among all CUSA pitchers this season. His four wins was also tied for the most by any Aggie during the 2026 season.
Across his two seasons with the Aggies, Turner made 24 appearances, 17 starts, earned nine wins and threw a total of 112.2 innings.
