LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State Head Baseball Coach Jake Angier announced Wednesday the addition of Assistant Coach Gavin Grant to his staff.
 
Like Angier, Grant joins the program from Oregon where he most recently was the Ducks' director of camps. Grant will primarily serve as the Aggies' infield coach, while also assisting with hitters and recruiting.
 
Grant brings experience in managing operations, recruiting, in-game managing, scouting and athlete development. Additionally, he oversaw all operations and logistics of baseball camps, coordinated on-campus recruiting activities.
 
After helping Oregon reach the Austin Super Regional in 2026, Grant has now made six consecutive regional appearances as a player (2021-23) and coach (2024-26). This includes super regional appearances as a player in 2023 and as a coach in 2024 and 2026.
 
During Grant's time at Oregon, the Ducks have seen nine hitters drafted, including three infielders drafted in the 2026 MLB Draft. Grant has assisted with the development of several standouts at Oregon, including 2025 NCBWA First Team All-American Mason Nevill, 2026 Just Baseball Third Team All-American Ryan Cooney, 2024 NCBWA Second Team Freshman All-American Maddox Molony and 2026 Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-American Angel Laya.
 
With the addition, Angier brings on a familiar face as Grant was a starting infielder at Oregon from 2020-23, while Angier served as an assistant coach on the Ducks' staff. As a player at Oregon, Grant appeared in 187 games and made 185 starts, including 155 starts at second base and 30 at shortstop. Grant ended his career ranked fourth in program history in walks (96), fifth in games started, and tied for seventh in runs scored (109).
 
He batted .266 (155-for-582) for his career with 16 home runs and 77 RBIs. Grant finished with 48 extra-base hits, including 28 doubles and four triples. In 2023, Grant helped guide the Ducks to a Pac-12 Championship as a student-athlete.
 
Prior to transferring to Oregon, Grant spent one season at Tacoma Community College, where he hit .291 with a .380 on-base percentage and accounted for two home runs, three triples, seven doubles and 37 RBIs on his way to being named a First Team West Region selection in 2019.
 
Grant achieved a bachelor's in general social science with an emphasis in business in 2022 before completing a master's in public administration in 2025.
