ITA Mountain Regional Draws/Results

PROVO, Utah - All good things must come to an end and so was the case for NM State men's tennis senior Louis Menard's impressive run at the ITA Mountain Regionals.

The final NM State competitor remaining in the main singles draw, Menard was knocked out in Thursday's quarterfinal round and the Aggies' collective run at the ITA regional tournament concluded.

DOUBLES
• Louis Menard and Martin Simecek did not have to play their NM State teammates Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke in the consolation draw quarterfinals, advancing past them via walkover.
• Once in the semifinals, Menard and Simecek took on Northern Arizona's pairing of Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves. Unfortunately, the Aggies' run in the consolation draw can to a screeching halt in the seimfinals as Buzonics and Groves secured an 8-4 win.

SINGLES
• As he had been doing all week in Provo, Utah, Menard kept winning. The Aggies' senior worked his way into the quarterfinal round thanks to a 7-5, 6-2 victory over freshman Francisco Gay of Idaho.
• One of the last eight men standing in the main draw, Menard made a bid to earn one of the four available spots in Friday's semifinals. Although he won the opening set against Denver's James Davis, Menard unfortunately saw his excellent run through the main draw come to a close as he suffered a 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-3 setback to Davis in the quarterfinals.
• Down in the consolation bracket, Simecek started his day with a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 6-4 win against Air Force's Johnny Mascagni. Pitted against another Air Force competitor, Arjen Kersten, in the consolation quarterfinals, Simecek's run at the ITA Mountain Regional concluded with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to the Falcons' freshman.
• With the option available to play extra matches which did not fall in he main draw or consolation draw, Akkermans and Clarke did so. Clarke's final match of the ITA Mountain Regional came against Utah's Wally Thayne and resulted in a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) win for Thayne.
• Akkermans, meanwhile, did battle with Northern Arizona competitor Joachin Schaefer in one of the extra matches which took place Thursday. At the time of this publishing, the score of that match had not been posted.

COMING UP NEXT
• For their final event of the fall, the Aggies are scheduled to travel to Tucson, Ariz., to take part in the Arizona Invitational. The three-day event begins Friday, Oct. 1 and wraps up Sunday, Oct. 3.
