LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State women's soccer is looking to get back in the win column this weekend as they prepare to face Sam Houston Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m.
 
KICKOFF
  • Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. (MT) from Joseph Pritchett Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.
  • The Aggies have won three out of their last four games but enter the match still fresh off a loss to Utah Tech last Sunday. 
  • Sam Houston is riding a two-game losing streak entering play Saturday after falling to Southern Utah and Utah Tech last weekend. 
  • The NM State currently ranks second in the WAC with a 4-2-2 conference record. Sam Houston sits in a tie with California Baptist for seventh in the WAC holding a 2-5-1 record in the conference.

  • The Aggies outshot the Trailblazers 13-10 with ten shots on goal to the Trailblazers seven. 
  • This was the most goals scored against the Aggies all season (3).
  • Loma McNeese scored her second goal of the weekend and seventh of the season - the most by an Aggie since Xitlaly Hernandez scored seven in the spring 2021 season. 
  • Thalia Chaverria recorded the first assist of her career following a pass to Mya Hammack that led to a Loma McNeese score in the 55-minute. 
  • Mya Hammack secured her third assist of the season and fifth of her career. 
  • Makenna Gottschalk recorded five saves giving her 65 on the season. This was the fifth time this season she's tallied at least five saves in a game. 
  • Three Aggies and one Trailblazer drew yellow cards in the match. Xitlaly Hernandez (3) drew the first one in the 47-minute. Kearney Hoggan (Utah Tech) and Landy Williams (4) both picked up yellow cards in the 75-minute. Loma McNeese (2) drew a yellow card in the 89-minute.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Aggies moved up 34 spots on the NCAA women's soccer RPI coming in at 113 despite losing to Utah Tech last week. This is the second highest ranking among WAC schools - Utah Valley ranks the highest at 58. 
  • NM State is top five in the conference for shots (201), points (77), goals (25), goals per game (1.79), assists (27), assist per game (1.93), goals allowed (13), shutouts (7) and corner kicks (88). 
  • Xitlaly Hernandez continues to lead the WAC in assists with seven. 
  • Loma McNeese is tied with Sammie Sofonia (Southern Utah) for the second most goals scored in the conference (7). Bianca Chacon also ranks top ten in the WAC for goals with four. 
  • Makenna Gottschalk ranks second in the conference in shutouts (7), third in goals against average (0.93), fourth in saves (55), and fifth in save percentage (.809).
  • Wither her seven shutouts, Gottschalk surpasses Dimitri Fong for most saves in a season, and Erin Wosick for most saves in a career (10).
  • Twelve different players have scored goals for the Aggies this season. 
  • 17 of the Aggies 25 goals this season have come in the second half of games. 114 of their 201 shots are also coming in the second half. 
  • NM State is 7-0-1 in games in which they score first.

NEXT UP
NM State will have an off week this week before heading to Grand Canyon and California Baptist to close out the 2022 regular season. After that, they will head to Seattle, Wash. for the WAC Tournament, which is scheduled to start November 2.
