Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Some strong play in doubles action unfortunately didn't translate to singles play as NM State dropped a 4-1 showdown with Abilene Christian Saturday morning at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Aggies finished their three-match swing at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions with a 1-2 mark following Saturday's setback.
DOUBLES
• Even though Abilene Christian scored a third-flight victory, that wasn't enough to keep the Aggies' top two tandems from securing the doubles point.
• NM State grabbed victories on lines one and two to obtain an early 1-0 lead.
SINGLES
• It didn't take long for Abilene Christian to knot things up at 1-1 once one-on-one play got going. The Wildcats conjured up a 6-4, 6-0 win in flight two action to pull even.
• Things were decided in the lower-tier flights as Abilene Christian grabbed triumphs on lines four, five and six to claim the win. NM State fell behind for good after the Wildcats' Cesar Barranquero scored a 6-3, 6-1 triumph in fifth-flight
play.
• NM State just couldn't get things going, falling 6-3, 7-5 on line six and 6-3, 6-4 in flight four to drop their second match of the weekend.
COMING UP NEXT
• Two more road matches stand in the way of NM State's first home matches of the 2022 season. The Aggies are headed to Flagstaff, Ariz., next week for non-conference matches at Northern Arizona and against Mesa Community College. NM State's first matchup of the weekend is with Northern Arizona at 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.
