Box Score DAVIS, Calif. - The NM State men's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end Friday morning as the Aggies dropped a 4-2 decision to WCC foe San Francisco at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on the campus of UC Davis.
The Aggies and Dons were both playing their openers of the 2022 Golden State Invitational.
DOUBLES
• Tandem action wound up going in favor of San Francisco. To start, Luca Fe d'Ostiani and Martin Simecek were doubled up, 6-3, by the Dons' flight three pairing of Stevie Gould and Nikola Kuraica.
• San Francisco closed out its doubles point win in top-flight action as Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke found themselves on the wrong end of a close 6-4 decision to Phuc Huynh and Nitzan Ricklis.
SINGLES
• Battling back in one-on-one play, Clarke was able to pull the Aggies even. He avenged his doubles loss to Huynh by locking up a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Dons' third-flight competitor.
• San Francisco broke the 1-1 deadlock with a win in flight two. Simecek suffered a 6-4, 6-0 defeat at the hands of Nil Giraldez.
• Hoping to pull his team even for the second time, Fe d'Ostiani was narrowly outplayed by Kuraica on line six. NM State's Italian freshman dropped a 7-5, 7-5 matchup on line six and San Francisco pushed its lead to 3-1.
• Louis Menard extended the match by grabbing a win in top-flight play. The Frenchman out-dueled Ricklis by a 6-2, 7-6 tally, cutting the Dons' lead to 3-2.
• Itay Feigin almost forced a third set in his fourth-flight showdown Gould, but saw the Dons' sophomore come up with a 6-2, 7-6 win to seal the deal for San Francisco.
