Box Score LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Back at home, still in the win column.
The NM State men's tennis team posted its second-straight shutout win, defeating visiting New Mexico Military Institute by a 7-0 score Sunday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Complex.
The win, NM State's second in a row, came in the team's first home match of the 2022 campaign.
DOUBLES
• Without a tandem to put forth in flight three of doubles play, NMMI found itself at an immediate disadvantage as the Aggies won that flight by default.
• Martin Simecek and Luca Fe d'Ostiani put the finishing touches on the Aggies' doubles point win by grabbing a 6-2 victory over Carlos Guitterez and David Palomares.
• It turned out to be a clean sweep of doubles action after Itay Feigin and Ryan Ford finished off Raul Davalos and Sebastian Soto via a 6-1 tally in flight two play.
SINGLES
• NM State earned a win on line six by default, hiking the hosts' lead to 2-0. Gijs Akkermans extended the hosts' lead to 3-0 after besting Soto by a 6-0, 6-0 score in fourth-flight action.
• The match-clinching point came off the racquet of Louis Menard who out-dueled Palomares by a 6-1, 6-0 tally in top-flight play.
• Corey Clarke kept NM State's shutout hopes alive by generating a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Guitterez on line two.
• Feigin remained perfect on the day, dropping just a single game in his line three battle with Davalos.
• Making his NM State debut, Vassanth Mathan entered the win column in his inaugural match as Aggie. The UT-Permian Basin transfer picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sameer Jain on line five to complete NM State's shutout victory.
COMING UP NEXT
• California is the destination for NM State as the Aggies prepare for three matches over the span of two days in the Golden State. NM State is set to duke it out against San Francisco Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. UC Davis will serve as the host site for the non-league showdown.
