LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Since taking the position as NM State baseball coach on June 19th, Head Coach Jake Angier has been preparing his team for the 2024 season. With the announcement of their 2024 schedule, that preparation ramps up as the new year looms around the corner. The Aggies will play a 55-game schedule, with 24 conference bouts in their first season as members of Conference USA.
"Everyone involved in our program couldn't be more thrilled about the challenge of moving to Conference USA," said Head Baseball Coach Jake Angier. "We are also excited to have been able to put together such a competitive non-conference schedule with good opponents both at home and on the road."
The Aggies will begin the Jake Angier era in the friendly confines of Presley Askew Field, hosting a four-game series against Summit League opponent South Dakota State beginning Friday, Feb. 16-19. Kicking off the month of March, NM State welcomes former WAC foe Northern Colorado to the 'Skew, playing a four-game series from Friday, March 1, to Monday, March 1.
NM State will play their first of ten games against Power Five programs when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, for a pair of games against the Texas Tech Red Raiders (March 12-13). A three-game home series with Sam Houston (March 15-17) kicks off the Aggies' time as members of CUSA. This will mark the third consecutive season that the Aggies and Bearkats compete as league rivals as Sam Houston also spent the previous two years as member of the Western Athletic Conference.
The Aggies' next series will take place in Lincoln, Neb., where NM State will make its second trip in the last three years to take on Big Ten affiliate Nebraska (March 22-24). This will also come amid a stretch of 12 days in which the Aggies will play eight games across four different locations.
Following the three-game stretch versus the Cornhuskers, NM state will play the first of a home-and-home series against Arizona as the Aggies visit Tucson, Ariz., on March 26, before the Wildcats make the trip to Las Cruces nearly one month later on April 24.
NM State's road stretch will conclude with a trip to Dallas to take on new conference opponent Dallas Baptist (March 28-30). During the 2023 campaign, DBU posted a 47-16 record to work as high as No. 14 in the national rankings on its way to reaching the Stillwater Regional Final before falling to College World Series participant Oral Roberts.
The Aggies will finally return home to welcome Liberty in a series that will span from Friday, April 5, to Sunday, April 7. This will mark the first-ever meeting on the diamond between the Aggies and Flames.
Following a home bout versus rival New Mexico, the Aggies will venture to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to take on Middle Tennessee (April 12-13). This will be followed by a two-game series in Stephenville, Texas, where NM State will face off with former WAC rival Tarleton.
Two days after seeing the Texans, NM State will be back in front of the Aggie faithful as they host FIU for a three-game series (April 19-21).
