Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas – The Aggies continued their extended road trip as they took on Omaha and Abilene Christian on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Following an impressive 4-2 victory over Omaha on Tuesday, NM State fell 4-3 to Abilene Christian on Wednesday.
MATCH ONE | NM State 4, Omaha 2
The Aggies began the day with a pair of important doubles victories as
Tobias Wallin and
Gustavo Campos opened things up with a 6-3 victory before
Roko Stipetic and Luca Fé d'Ostiani turned in a narrow 7-6 win. The pair of wins put the Aggies just three singles victories away from the match win.
Following a win by retirement for Wallin, NM State moved just one point from securing the match as
Ricardo Mercado secured a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6. Omaha then made things interesting with wins at No. 4 and No. 1, however, the Aggies' Fé d'Ostiani clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5.
MATCH TWO | NM State 3, Abilene Christian 4
One day after collecting its sixth dual win of the season, the Aggies collided with former WAC foe Abilene Christian. As they did against Omaha, the Aggies took the early advantage as they claimed the doubles point with.
Tobias Wallin and
Gustavo Campos collected their second straight win and ninth of the season as they defeated ACU's No. 1 tandem by a score of 7-5. Meanwhile,
Itay Feigin and
Ricardo Mercado claimed a 6-2 win at No. 3 to help the Aggies move to singles play with a 1-0 lead.
In singles action, ACU pulled even with a win at No. 5 before Wallin continued his strong stretch of play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Deli Mihaly on line No. 2. This marked Wallin's sixth singles win of the season.
Roko Stipetic then helped the Aggies notch their third point of the match thanks to a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4. However, Stipetic would be the final Aggie to earn a victory as ACU went on to pick up wins at No. 6, No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the home win.
UP NEXT
NM State now earns a much needed period of rest as they are off until Sunday, April 7, when it return to its home court to host Lubbock Christian on Senior Day.
