NM State Baseball Heads North to Play In-State Rival

The Aggies will play UNM in Albuquerque for their 260th game in program history.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The NM State Aggies head north to Albuquerque to face off against in-state rival the 12-8 UNM Lobos on Tuesday, March 19 at 6 p.m. MT. This will be the first mid-week game that these two teams will play each other as they are set to compete in three more midweek games this season.  



Road Trip 
The Aggies have a tough road trip ahead of them as they will play eight games in eleven days, starting with the game against UNM on March 19. With the first game played in Albuquerque, the Aggies will have to travel 829 miles from Albuquerque to Lincoln, Neb.  

For just their third road series of the season, the Aggies will head to Lincoln, Neb. To play the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a three game weekend series. From there the Aggies have plans to head back west to Tucson, Ariz.  

Once in Arizona the Aggies will play the Arizona Wildcats in just one mid-week game. From Arizona the Aggies will head to Dallas, Texas to play the DBU Patriots just their second conference foe of the season.  

Conference Rankings 
The Aggies are still dominating the plate as they rank first in seven statistical measures. The first and arguably the most important is batting average. The Aggies have a team batting average of .323 which puts them atop of the conference.  

With 116 walks this season the Aggies have proven to have some of the best plate discipline in the conference as they are in first place by 11 walks over LA Tech. Dominating with the sticks and walks the Aggies have managed to record a .439 on-base percentage this season which leads the conference. 

So far this season, the Aggies the Aggies have driven in 195 runs which leads the conference and is 12th in the nation. With those runs the Aggies have an average runs per game of 9.8 which also lead the conference and is 16th in the nation.  

The Aggies still rank first in the conference in both triples and triples per game with nine triples on the season and .45 triples per game.  

Scouting the Lobos
At the plate the Lobos have a batting average of .323, slugging percentage of .511 and on-base percentage of .439. Tye Wood is leading the team with a .426 Batting average as he has 20 hits this season and six extra base hits.  

On the mound the Lobos have a team ERA of 8.01 runs allowing 154 earned runs on 243 hits. The Lobos have a 1.74 strikeout to walk ratio with 153 strikeouts and 88 walks. Daxton Purser is leading the team with a 4.74 among pitchers who have at least 10 innings pitched.  

Series History 
The Aggies and the Lobos have played 259 games against each other dating back to 1962. The Lobos currently have control over the series matchup with 166 wins to the Aggies 93 wins.  

The first series that these teams played in 1962 was a two-game series where the Aggies lost both games. This series was played in Las Cruces, N.M. where the Lobos won game one 5-4 and game two 11-2.  

In the 2023 season, the Aggies and the Lobos alternated sites playing a single game on four occasions. In the four games played the two teams split, winning two games each. The Aggies took game one winning 2-0 in Las Cruces, N.M. The Lobos would then fall in the next two games losing 0-13 and 6-14. For the final game of the year the Aggies won 8-0.

The NM State Aggies will face off against UNM for their first game of four spread out across the season Tuesday, March 19 at 6 p.m. MT. The Aggies will then head to Lincoln, Neb.
