LAS VEGAS, Nev. – NM State opened competition at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships on Wednesday, highlighted by a strong doubles performance from Holland Snell and Lance Urlaub, who advanced to the next round in the main draw.
The Aggie duo earned a first-round bye before defeating New Mexico's Philip Bosin and Alberto Perez to secure their place in Thursday's round of 32. The win continues their solid fall form as they look to build momentum in the regional tournament hosted by UNLV.
In singles play, sophomore Matias Rojas made a confident start, posting a straight-sets win over BYU's Brennon Chow (6-4, 6-2) before falling in a competitive second-round match against Idaho's top-seeded Mikolaj Lis. Lance Urlaub competed in one of the day's longest matches after his first-round bye in the qualifiying round but came up just short against Idaho's Gabriel Moroder, 6-3, 6-3, 7-6.
Day two of the ITA Mountain Regionals continues Thursday, with the Aggies returning to doubles action with two teams in the round of 32 in doubles and singles main draw action starts for Tobias Wallin and Holland Snell.
