NM State to Compete at Wildcat Invite

| By:

The Aggies will begin their 2025 fall season with trip to Arizona.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State men's tennis is set to open its fall slate this weekend when it travels to Tucson, Ariz., for the Wildcat Invite hosted by the University of Arizona. The three-day tournament will feature a strong field, including Arizona, UNLV, Northern Arizona, New Mexico and San Diego State.

Action gets underway Friday, Sept. 12, at 8:30 a.m. and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 14.

2025 Aggies Preview

The Aggies return a familiar lineup in 2025, bringing back eight players from last year's squad while adding one newcomer – freshman Laurendi Fischer from Paris, France.

Leading the way will be junior Tobias Wallin, who proved to be a key contributor last season while primarily competing at the No. 2 singles position. Wallin, a native of Sweden, finished 2024-25 with a 10-10 singles record and an 8-10 mark in doubles. Among his highlights was a hard-fought three-set victory over Texas Tech's Tyler Stewart (7-5, 6-2, 6-2). He also secured a pivotal doubles win that helped NM State notch a historic team victory over Texas Tech – a performance that earned him Conference USA Athlete of the Week and Doubles Team of the Week honors.

El Paso native Holland Snell also returns following a strong freshman campaign in which he posted a 10-7 singles record – the second-highest win total on the team. Snell primarily competed at the No. 3 spot but also made appearances at No. 2 and No. 4. His first year included a hard-fought three-set win over Nevada's Lucas Hammond and a dominant 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Kennesaw State's Erik Vladimirov in the 2025 CUSA Tournament.

Junior Lance Urlaub made an immediate impact during his first season in the Crimson & White after transferring from Northern Arizona, splitting time across the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles positions. Urlaub led the Aggies in singles victories with an 11-7 record and contributed seven doubles wins from the No. 3 position. Among his top performances was a commanding win over Arizona State's Mikey Anderson (7-6 [7-2], 6-2).

Together, Wallin, Snell, and Urlaub headline an Aggie roster that will look to build on its success while Fischer aims to add depth in his freshman season.
