LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State opened its fall campaign in strong fashion on Friday as the Aggies picked up multiple victories during day one of the Wildcat Invite, highlighted by freshman Laurendi Fischer's first collegiate win.
Fischer shined in his Aggie debut, defeating UNLV's Michael Kouame in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. His performance set the tone for NM State, which also collected wins from returners Patrick Lohmann and Holland Snell in singles play. Lohmann battled to a 7-6, 6-4 win over New Mexico's Tyler Waddock, while Snell closed out a straight-sets victory against San Diego State's Brock Anderson, 7-6, 6-3.
The Aggies also found success in doubles, as the tandem of Holland Snell and Lance Urlaub powered past UNLV's duo of Vitality Horovoy and Roberto Hernandez, 6-3.
Other Aggies battled hard, with multiple matches unfinished due to time, leaving more opportunities for victories as the tournament continues.
NM State will return to the courts at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on Saturday morning for day two action.
