Aggies Fall in Spring Season Opener at Arizona State

New Mexico State opened its spring schedule today with a road test at Arizona State, falling 4-0 to the Sun Devils at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz. 

Arizona State secured the doubles point by earning wins on courts one and three. The Sun Devils picked up a 6-3 victory on court one, while the duo of Mathis Bondaz and Jelani Sarr clinched the point with a 6-2 decision on court three. The match on court two was left unfinished with ASU holding a 5-3 advantage. 

In singles play, Arizona State earned three straight-set victories to seal the match. Ofek Shimanov collected a 6-1, 6-1 win over Patrick Lohmann on court three, followed by a 6-2, 6-0 decision from Mathis Bondaz against Holland Snell at the top spot. The final point came via walkover on court six, as Milos Mikovic was awarded the win. 

Three additional singles matches were left unfinished. On court two, Roko Stipetic was locked in a tight first set with Shu Matsuoka before the match was halted at 7-6 (7-5). Laurendi Fischer and Thomas Duforets were also competing on courts four and five, respectively, before play concluded. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Aggies remain on the road as they travel to Phoenix, Ariz., to take on Grand Canyon on Friday, Jan. 16.
