PROVO, Utah – The New Mexico State men's tennis team had a successful first day of competition at the ITA Mountain Regional on Wednesday in Provo, claiming eight singles victories and a pair of doubles wins.

Luis Flores opened things up with an 8-5 win over Boise State's duo of Pedro Platzeck and Stefan Lalovic while
Stijn de Haan and Mauricio Benitez took down Northern Colorado pair 8-3.

Louis Menard dropped their match to Idaho State's doubles team 8-4 to close out doubles action.
Flores took care of business on Wednesday, defeating Michiel Van Schoor (6-4, 6-1) from Weber State and Jake Tullis of BYU 6-3, 6-3 to move to the quarterfinals. Goncalves continued to shine in singles action, defeating Nick Wade from Northern Colorado before ousting Southern Utah's Jose Ortega 6-1, 6-4.
Benitez took down WSU's Cezary Walkusz 6-0, 6-1 before dropping a three-set battle against Denver's Eric Morris, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. NM State's de Haan was victorious in his opening match 6-3, 7-5, but was bested by Utah's Randy Cory 6-4, 6-3 before Menard fell in his first match 7-5, 6-2.
Sergi Espias bested the Weber State's Nick Werner 7-5, 6-2, but couldn't get past Carlos Neto from Idaho and fell 6-3, 6-4. Asmar also had success in his opening match, but couldn't get past Montana's Victor Casadevall 6-4, 6-1.
