LAS VEGAS – The NM State men's tennis team notched its third-straight victory on Super Bowl Sunday, defeating Weber State 4-1 to wrap up it its time in Las Vegas.
 
NM State's duo of 
Stijn de Haan and 
Mauri Benitez took care of their opponent at No. 2 doubles with an easy 6-1 win. Weber State's No. 3 pair knotted things up when they took down 
Sergi Espias and 
Enrique Asmar in a back-and-forth battle, 7-6.
 
A fierce battle at No. 1 doubles was taking place as the No. 2 and No. 3 flights wrapped up. 
Christofer Goncalves and 
Luis Flores were not to be best and prevailed 7-6 (3-0) to give New Mexico State the 1-0 lead.
 
Asmar redeemed his loss in doubles action and made quick work of his foe on court No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. De Haan gave the Aggies a 3-0 lead over the Wildcats when he ousted Hou-En Chen 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 4 doubles slot.
 
WSU gained its lone point at No. 2 singles before Goncalves, the Aggie team leader, clinched the match for NM State with a tooth-and-nail win at the top singles flight 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
 
The Aggies will return home to recoup before flying to Dallas for a pair of matches next week against UIW (Feb. 11) and UT Arlington (Feb. 12).
