PHOENIX – The New Mexico State men's tennis team blanked Chicago State on Saturday at the GCU Tennis Facility to go 2-0 after the first Western Athletic Conference pod action in Phoenix.

Enrique Asmar and
Sergi Espias picked up a quick 6-2 victory on court No. 3 to start doubles action.
Christofer Goncalves and
Luis Flores clinched the doubles point shortly after when they ousted their counterparts from Chicago State (6-10, 0-1) at No. 1 doubles 6-3.

Mauri Benitez put the Aggies (11-5, 2-0 WAC) up on top 2-0 when he defeated Cody Wurzelbacher 6-0, 6-0 on court No. 6. Goncalves didn't have much trouble at the top singles position and sent his opponent packing with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Espias clinched the match for NM State at No. 4 singles when he bested Christian Gonzalez 6-1, 6-4 before Flores, Asmar and
Stijn de Haan finished the sweep of Chicago State – respectively.

The torturous 18-match road swing for NM State continues in a couple weeks when it flies to Seattle for three matches for the second WAC pod hosted by Seattle U. First up for the Aggies will be the host, SU on Friday, April 7, at 2 p.m. (MT). UMKC follows on Saturday, April 8, at 9 a.m. before the NM State wraps conference play up against UT Rio Grande Valley at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 9.
