CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Mexico State Men's tennis team wrapped up play at the HEB Invitational on Saturday by claiming third-place with its 4-1 victory over Louisiana at the Henry Tennis Center.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns took an early command of the match, winning the doubles point on courts No. 3 and No. 2, respectively, and left court No. 1 unfinished at 4-4.
Â
However, that lead for Louisiana (11-7) didn't last long as
Luis Flores came out firing and tied things up after his 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. Despite needing three sets,
Christofer Goncalves was able give NM State its first lead of the day (2-1) when he took down the Ragin' Cajun's top singles player 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
Â
Stijn de Haan dismantled Vlad Kramarov soon after 6-4, 6-4 on court No. 3 before
Sergi Espias claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court No. 4 and gave the Aggies the 4-1 victory.
Â
NM State (7-4) will have a short turnaround as it heads to Sacramento for a three-day tournament (March 10-12) hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. The Aggies are set to open the weekend against Portland at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10.
