LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The two-time defending Western Athletic Conference Champions New Mexico State men's tennis team is set to square off against the fourth-seeded Cougars of Chicago State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the NM State Tennis Center.

Chicago State defeated the No. 5-seed Seattle U in dominating fashion on Friday by score of 4-0 as the Aggies stood watching over their future opponent. With its win on Friday, Chicago State moved to 8-15 on the year.

After claiming its third-straight regular-season title, the Aggie men racked up the awards this past Thursday at the WAC awards banquet. Head coach
Carlos Vargas took home his second WAC Coach of the Year honors in three years while
Christofer Goncalves was named the WAC Player of the Year.

Joining Goncalves on the First-Team All-WAC list for singles play was sophomore
Stijn de Haan.
Enrique Asmar,
Mauri Benitez,
Luis Flores and Luis Espias all walked away with hardware, earning Second-Team All-WAC distinctions.

NM State's top doubles team of Goncalves and Flores came away with First-Team All-WAC honors while its No. 2 doubles pair of de Haan and Benitez locked in Second-Team All-WAC accolades.

Should New Mexico State win on Saturday, it'll have the opportunity to capture its third-straight WAC Championship title and NCAA Tournament bid. The Aggies will either face off against No. 2 UMKC or No. 3 UTRGV on Sunday, April 30, at 1 p.m. if they advance.
