TUCSON, Ariz. – After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the New Mexico State men's tennis was held in check by San Francisco and fell to the Dons 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Arizona.
Â
Doubles action started with a tense battle on all three courts between the Aggies and Dons. The No. 3 duo of
Enrique Asmar and
Louis Menard drew first blood, taking court No. 3 against San Francisco's Oliver Poysti and Lucas Marinelli 6-4.
Â
USF's No. 2 doubles team answered by knotting things up at 1-1 after a 6-4 win on court No. 2 before
Christofer Goncalves and
Luis Flores sealed the doubles point for NM State with a 6-4 victory at the top doubles slot.
Â
Asmar made quick work of his opponent on court No. 6 in singles action, claiming a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory. However, that wound up being NM State's only win in singles action as the Aggies fell one-by-one to San Francisco 5-2.
NM State will have a short break before taking on Saint Mary's at 2 p.m. (MT) before returning home for an 11 a.m. contest against Mesa Community College on Sunday, Jan. 28.
