TAKING A LOOK AT THE DELTA DEVILS
Mississippi Valley State enters Presley Askew this weekend with an 0-1 record on the year after falling on the road to the top-ranked Division II Delta State Statesmen, 10-5.
Despite the loss, the Delta Devils saw eight players hit safely and combine for five extra-base knocks. Nicholas Johnson got the start and threw four innings of scoreless ball, allowing MVSU to take a 3-0 lead, but the scoring in the fifth for Delta State erased that advantage.
Last season the Delta Devils finished with a 7-34 overall record and 6-18 mark in conference play.
HITTER OF THE WEEK
New Mexico State's
Marcus Still earned hitter of the week on Feb. 19 after leading the Aggies at the plate through three games against Towson.
Still went 8-for-9 with four walks as NM State took two of three from Towson. In the season opener, the New Orleans, La. native was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a pair of RBIs in a 24-4 win. His only falter came in game two, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in an 11-6 loss.
The Aggies and Still bounced back on Sunday when the outfielder went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-3 win. His .889 average leads the WAC after the opening weekend of play.
