Historic Career for Bradish Leads to MLB Draft Selection

NM State baseball pitcher Kyle Bradish became the highest Aggie selected in the MLB Draft after being selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the fourth round, pick 121.

SECAUCUS, N.J. – The 2018 Major League Baseball Draft continued on Tuesday, June 5. New Mexico State right-handed pitcher Kyle Bradish was selected in the fourth round, pick 121 by the Los Angeles Angels. The early selection marks the highest drafted Aggie in NM State baseball's history.

Following the historic draft selection, NM State head coach Brian Green said, "Another special day in putting the finishing touches on a special season for Aggie baseball. Congrats to Kyle and the Bradish family. Absolutely tremendous people and Kyle has beyond earned this opportunity."

Bradish enjoyed a historic career at New Mexico State that saw him compile a 25-8 overall record with 311 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .220 batting average over 272.0 innings of work. During his three-year career, the Goodyear, Ariz. native spent the majority of his time with the Crimson & White as the team's ace starting on Friday night's.

In his final season with the Aggies, Bradish was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference First-Team, as well as the All-WAC Tournament Team and NCAA Lubbock All-Regional Team. Along with the awards, the pitcher also set a new single-season record for strikeouts at NM State with 140 which shattered the previous record of 107 set by Albert Montoya in 1991.

During his sophomore campaign, Bradish earned All-WAC First-Team honors after pacing the team and finishing second in the conference with 89 strikeouts. The right-hander also tied for the team and conference lead in wins with eight and limited opponents to a league-low .202 batting average.

The Aggie ace made his name known early in the City of Crosses following a standout freshman season. Bradish was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, becoming the first pitcher to earn the honor in program history. As a rookie, the hurler led NM State in wins with eight and punch outs totaling 82.

This is now the third year in a row an Aggie has been taken in the first six rounds. The junior joins former teammates Marcel Renteria drafted in the sixth round by the New York Mets in 2017 and Daniel Johnson taken during the fifth round by the Washington Nationals in 2016. Six NM Sate players have now been drafted in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft in school history.

"We look forward to seeing Kyle continue his march towards reaching the big leagues and we thank him for his talents, his work ethic and his commitment to leadership and the growth of New Mexico State baseball," said Green.
