NM State Baseball Primed for Summer Ball Action

10 different Aggies will participate in Summer Ball leagues

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Headlined by lefty Sammy Natera heading to the Cape, 10 different members of the NM State baseball program will participate in summer league action throughout the country this summer.

A freshman from Juarez, Mexico, Natera will pitch for Jerry Weinstein and the Warham Gateman in the Cape Cod League. Natera will be the first Aggie to play in the prestigious Cape Cod League since Nick Gonzales played for the Cotuit Kettleers back in 2019.

Other summer ball assignments include Kevin Jimenez (Fredrick Keys) and Chris Jefferson (Trenton Thunder) playing in the MLB Draft League, outfielder Kyle Westfall (Duluth Huskies) playing in the
Northwoods League, Ethan Mann (Anchorage Glacier Pilots) and Tommy Tabak (Anchorage Glacier Pilots) joining forces in the Alaska Baseball League, Hayden Johns (Amarillo Sod Squad) taking his talents to the Texas Collegiate League and future NM State teammates Gunner Antillon and Hunter Antillon joining Porter Pittman on the Inland Valley Pirates of the SCCBL.

Sammy Natera | LHP | Wareham Gateman (Cape Cod League):
Following a strong inaugural campaign with the Aggies in 2021, Natera will look to build on his early success playing for Jerry Weinstein and the Wareham Gateman in the Cape Cod League. Natera and the Gateman open the 2021 CCL schedule on June 20 against the Cotuit Kettleleers. Complete schedule, rosters and stats can be found here.

Chris Jefferson | RHP | Trenton Thunder (MLB Draft League):  
The nation's leader in complete games in 2021, Jefferson is currently pitching for the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League. The All-WAC Honorable Mention selection made his Thunder debut on Tuesday (June 15) firing three strong innings. The righty allowed just one earned run and struck out three batters, earning the victory in Trenton's 9-5 victory over the West Virginia Bears. Kevin Jimenez | INF | Fredrick Keys (MLB Draft League):
A Second Team All-WAC selection, Jimenez has gotten off to a strong start with the Keys. Through seven games the versatile infielder is hitting .333 (8-24) with a pair of doubles and five RBIs. The WAC-leader in free passes has also drawn five walks through seven games. Jimenez's on-base percentage sits at .483, and the infielder enters the weekend having recorded a hit in six straight games. Kyle Westfall | OF | Duluth Huskies | (Northwoods League):
A transfer from Coastal Carolina and Wabash Valley College, Westfall is hitting .208 (5-24) with a double and two RBIs for the Duluth Huskies so far. The outfielder went 2-for-2 on Tuesday (June 15), and recorded his second multiple hit game of the season. The Huskies are currently 5-12. Ethan Mann | INF | Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska Baseball League):
An All-WAC Honorable Mention selection, Mann is off to a strong start for the Glacier Pilots. Through eight games (23 at-bats), Mann is hitting .348 with a pair of long balls. The infielder has also added five RBIs, scored seven runs and has stolen three bases. Mann's .348 average is the third-best mark in the ABL among qualified batters. The Glacier Pilots are currently 5-4 and sit in second place. Complete schedule, rosters and stats for the ABL can be found here.

Tommy Tabak | OF | Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska Baseball League):
One of the Aggies three All-WAC Second Team selections, Tabak is currently hitting .226 with four extra-base hits for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. In addition to his two doubles and two triples, Tabak has also scored three runs and driven in four over the first eight games of the season. The outfielder has recorded at least one hit in six of his last seven games, as the Glacier Pilots are currently 5-4 and sit in second place. Hayden Johns | RHP | Amarillo Sod Squad (Texas Collegiate League):
A native of Temecula, Calif., Johns has spent the beginning part of summer with the Amarillo Sod Squad of the Texas Collegiate League. The freshman righty has appeared in three games, and has recorded 10 strikeouts in 10 innings of work. In his last appearance on Thursday, Johns struck out the side firing a scoreless eighth inning. The pitcher has recorded at least two strikeouts in all three of his appearances, and ranks third in the TCL in strikeouts. Complete schedule, rosters and stats for the TCL can be found here.
