HUNTSVILLE, Texas – With Major League Baseball kicking off the 2023 season on Thursday, NM State baseball makes a trip to Huntsville, Texas for its 22nd, 23rd, and 24th games of the season.  
 
The Aggies trip to battle Sam Houston will be its third road trip in conference play, sitting at 1-5 in WAC games away from Presley Askew Field. Just as was the case last weekend, Treyjen Meza, Pablo Cortes, and Darius Garcia will be the Aggies projected starting pitchers for the three-game set.

Against Ottawa (Ariz.), Keith Jones II became the first Aggie to homer twice in an inning since Tristan Peterson did so against Texas Southern on February 17, 2019. Jones II and Nick Gore both had multi-home run nights against the Spirit - Something an Aggie hadn't done since April 10, 2022 (Tommy Tabak vs. Sacramento State)

Following the UTRGV series, Jones II leads the Aggies in batting average, hitting .296 on the season. Jones II is edging out Mitch Namie (.294) and Kevin Jimenez (.291) for the top spot.
 
LIGHT TOWER POWER
Powered by the four home runs between Jones II and Gore, NM State launched seven home runs in the midweek tilt against OUAZ. The seven home run effort was the most by any team in the WAC this season and is tied for the second-highest total in a Division I game this season.
 
ALL HAIL HALE
OF Damone Hale has swiped a team-high seven bases this season. In 2022, Tommy Tabak led the Aggies with 10 stolen bases.
 
FOR THE RECORD...
Infielder Kevin Jimenez sits inside or near the top-ten in NM State school history for many offensive categories. With 49 career doubles, Jimenez needs just 12 this season to become NM State's all-time two-bag leader.
 
WALK IT OUT
Kevin Jimenez has drawn 116 career walks - The fourth most in NM State history. Jimenez passed Tanner White (2010-11) on February 25 vs. Northwestern State in Sugar Land, Texas. Jimenez sits four walks behind Chris Fanning (1988-91; 120) to move into a tie for third place.
 
#PROAGGIES
Ten former Aggies begin their 2023 campaigns in the Major or Minor Leagues soon, including Kyle Bradish. A member of the Baltimore Orioles, Thursday marks Bradish's first major league opening day. Nick Gonzales and Joey Ortiz will begin the 2023 season at Triple-A, playing for Indianapolis (Pirates) and Norfolk (Orioles), respectively.
 
D1BASEBALL RANKINGS
Early in February, D1Baseball named Kevin Jimenez the No. 36 second baseman in the country. Additionally, Logan Gallina was listed as the No. 39 first baseman by the website.
 
PERFECT GAME ALL-CONFERENCE
1B Logan Gallina and RHP Matthew Maloney were both named to the Preseason All-Conference team by Perfect Game.
