Lake Charles, La. - The NM State Aggies are set to appear in their first road series this weekend, Fri. 23 to Mon. 26, against the McNeese Cowboys in Lake Charles, La. The Aggies will play four games against the Cowboys, one game each day.
On The Road
The Aggies hit another first as this series will be the first road series in the 2024 season. This road trip will be the farthest south the Aggies will travel all season. The four-game series will be played on Fri. 23 Mon. 26, just one game being played on each day.
The Aggies have 12 different road trips ahead of them with their trip to Lake Charles being the first. They are set to visit eight different states during the 2024 season.
Series History
The Aggies have played McNeese in two different series dating back to the 1974 season where they played the Cowboys in a three-game series. In that series, the Aggies lost two games and won one. All three games were close games with the largest victory margin in game three where the Cowboys beat the Aggies 4-1.
Fastforward to 2001 when McNeese came to Las Cruces once again to play the Aggies in another three-game series. This time the Aggies came out victorious, winning all three games.
The second game in that series stands out the most as the Aggies defeated the Cowboys by a score of 22-3. The Aggies put up double-digit runs in two of the three games.
This will be the first time the Aggies will play McNeese in Lake Charles as the previous two matchups were both played in Las Cruces.
Plate Discipline
After the opening series against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, the Aggies currently sit as the third best team in the nation at drawing walks. In that series, the Aggies drew 43 walks across the four-game series.
It Takes the Village
In the 2024 opening series, 27 different Aggies saw in-game action. Head Coach
Jake Angier tended to give different athletes a chance at the plate, on defense and on the base paths. The Jackrabbits saw 14 different pitchers on the mound from the Aggies.
Scouting McNeese
The Cowboys have a team batting average of .185 with their top hitter having an average of .333. So far in the season the Cowboys have scored four total runs. Through four games the Cowboys have a slugging percentage of .242, on-base percentage of .294 and an OPS of .536.
McNeese pitchers have an ERA of 9.66. Cowboy pitchers have given up 48 hits, 42 runs and 34 earned runs. Their strikeout-to-walk ratio is 1.18. Through four games the Cowboys opponents have recorded a batting average of .356.
