Lake Charles, La. - The NM State Aggies lost to the McNeese Cowboys 2-1 in their first road game of the 2024 season. Struggles at the plate hindered the Aggies' chances of winning in Lake Charles, La.
The Aggies opened the hitting in the top of the second with a single from Titus Dumitru who earned his first hit of the season. Both Nick Gore and Jadon Arakaki singled in the second. The Aggies were unable to capitalize on these hits and finished the innings scoreless.
In the bottom of the second starting pitcher Treyjen Meza only saw three hitters and sat all three down with two strike outs and one groundout to second basemen Gianni Horvat.
The Cowboys started the scoring in the bottom of the third with two hits. On the two hits they were able to rack up just one run.
Meza once again only needed three batters to get out of the inning in the bottom of the fifth as he would strike out two and produce another groundout, this time to shortstop Romeo Ballesteros.
In the top of the sixth the Aggies tied the ballgame up thanks to a leadoff triple hit by Mitch Namie. He was then brought home by Preston Godfrey who earned his fifth RBI this season.
The Cowboys scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to take their second lead of the night. This would be the last run scored by either team.
Saul Soto came into relief for Meza in the bottom of the seventh and left the Cowboys scoreless in his first inning. Soto only gave up two hits in the bottom of the seventh, forcing two groundouts and a flyout.
Soto would continue his success in the bottom of the eighth holding the Cowboys to no runs once again. This time Soto only gave up one hit in the inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Mitch Namie hit his first triple of the season

- Meza tossed seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched
