NM State Heads to Stephenville

The Aggies are set to play the 20-15 Tarleton Texans in a two-game mid-week matchup.

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The NM State Aggies head to Stephenville, Texas to play the Tarleton Texans in a two-game mid-week matchup. The first game will be played on April 16, at 5 p.m. MT, with the second game set to be played at April 17, at 11 a.m. MT.
 
Keith Jones II: Hitter of the Week (April 15)
Keith Jones II becomes the first Aggies to earn Conference USA Hitter of the Week. Powered by a .550 batting average and 13 RBIs on the week Jones picks up his second award in Conference USA.
 
Coming off a 3-1 week the Aggies have been led by Jones at the plate as he recorded 11 total hits in his 20 at bats, recording one single and three home runs. This past week Jones recorded a 1.050 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.595.
 
With an astounding .407 batting average, Jones is now leading the conference. He is also leading the conference in OPS (1.275), SLG% (.763) and OB% (.512) on the season. Jones ranks inside the top three in each of the following statistics: hits (55), doubles (14), RBIs (46) and walks (28).
 
NM State Hitting Streaks
The Aggies have been dominating at the plate racking up several different streaks. Jones now has a season high eight game hitting streak which is currently the longest hitting-streak on the team. Both Kade Benavidez and Titus Dumitru are on five game hitting streaks.
 
Mitch Namie is currently on the longest on-base streak on the team with 16. Damone Hale, Dumitru and Jones are on an eight game on-base streak. Benavidez has reached base safely in the last six games.
 
High-Powered Offense
The Aggies offensive numbers are impressive as they are leading the conference in on-base percentage, .412. With an outstanding weekend the Aggies now lead the conference with a .301 team batting average.
 
The Aggies' high-powered offense is producing a lot of runs as they are now the conference leader in runs with 279 and runs per game with 8.2. With a .498 slugging percentage the Aggies sit comfortably in third place across the conference.
 
Scouting the Texans
The Texans have a team batting average of .279, scoring 230 runs on the season with 26 home runs and 63 doubles. Cris Enriquez leads the team with a batting average of .327, he has a team leading 30 RBIs five more than Tyson Drake and Cole Miears.
 
With a team ERA of 5.59, the Texans have 187 total earned runs on the season giving up 45 homers and 69 doubles. Grant Garza is leading the team with an ERA of 2.25 recording seven wins and no losses on zero starts. 
 
Series History
The Aggies and the Texans have faced off in seven total games, Tarleton currently has five wins against the Aggies two wins. The Aggies are currently on a three-game losing streak to Tarleton, as they lost all three games in the series, they played in 2023.
 
This will be the first time that the Aggies traveled to Stephenville since 2021. The Aggies two wins in the series come from the final two games of the four-game series that was played in 2021.
