NM State Heads to TCU

The Aggies are set to play the 29-16 Horned Frogs in a three-game weekend series.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Aggies head to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs in a three-game series starting May 10, at 5:30 p.m. MT, May 11, at 3 p.m. MT and May 12, at noon MT. This three-game weekend series is the Aggies last non-conference matchup of the 2024 season.
 
Hayden Walker: Conference USA Pitcher of the Week (May 6)
Hayden Walker becomes the first Aggie pitcher to earn Conference USA Pitcher of the Week Award. Walker earned two wins on the mound this week closing out the game in both wins over LA Tech.
 
This past week Walker made the switch from starter to closer and it paid off as he pitched in a total of 5.0 innings this week, only allowing one hit and one earned run, with three strikeouts.
 
Walker now has five wins under his belt this season. He is also leading the Aggies with the lowest ERA of 5.43.  This is the first time in program history that the Aggies have won Conference USA weekly awards in back-to-back weeks.
 
Keeping up with Jones
Keith Jones II has had a stellar year so far, with a .394 batting average Jones is first in the conference. Jones has 76 hits on the season which puts him in first in the conference and ninth in the nation.
 
With 65 runs, Jones leads the conference and eighth in the nation. Jones has recorded 67 RBIs, which leads the conference and 10th in the nation. Jones has 151 total bases on the season which puts him eighth in the nation and first and in the conference. Jones also has 17 big flies on the season, putting him first in the conference.
 
Road Win Streak: W6
Heading into Fort Worth, Texas the Aggies are tied for the third longest road win streak in the nation. The Aggies have won six of their last road games starting with a win over Middle Tennessee on April 14th, then a series sweep over Tarleton and Jax State.
 
Columbia is leading the nation in road win streaks, with eleven games. Purdue currently has a seven-game win streak on the road, they are second in the nation. UC Irvine also has a six-game win streak on the road to be tied with the Aggies in third place.
 
Scouting the Horned Frogs
The Horned Frogs have a team batting average of .270, with their top hitter, Logan Maxwell, batting 362. As a team TCU have recorded 404 hits, 82 doubles, 12 triples and 37 home runs. The Horned Frogs have also stolen 58 bags on 74 attempts.
 
On the mound, the Horned Frogs have a team ERA of 4.54, with their top starter, Payton Tolle, recording an ERA of 2.87. As a pitching staff, the Horned Frogs have allowed 200 earned runs, and 375 hits with 498 strike outs.
 
Series History
The Aggies have played TCU in six total games, four on the road and two at Presley Askew Field. The Horned Frogs have won all six games these two teams have played each other.
 
The first time that these two teams matched up against each other was in 1991 when the Aggies traveled to Fort Worth, Texas to play in a four-game series. The Aggies then hosted TCU in 1992 in a two-game series. This was the last time the Aggies and the Horned Frogs played each other.
