Men's Tennis Hosts a Pair of Matches at Home

The NM State men’s tennis team is at home this weekend, hosting Western New Mexico and UT Arlington.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The three-match homestand for the New Mexico State men's tennis team continues this weekend as it entertains Western New Mexico and UT Arlington at the NM State Tennis Center. Admission is free for all fans at all men's and women's tennis matches.
 
First up for the Aggies will be in-state foe WNMU on Friday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. (MT). The Mustangs are 1-1 on the year with its lone win coming against New Mexico Military Institute, 7-2. The Aggies will be square off against NMMI later in the year. Western New Mexico dropped their season-opener at Grand Canyon 6-1.
 
New Mexico State then wraps up its homestand with an 11 a.m. contest against UT Arlington on Sunday, Feb. 18. The Mavericks enter the match 4-1 on the year with their lone loss coming against Harvard in a neutral site match 6-1. Since then, UTA has reeled off four-straight victories at home. The Mavericks are schedule to square off against WNMU before taking on the Aggies on Sunday.
 
The Aggies head into this weekend's action 5-3 after winning their last two matches. Enrique Asmar (15-6), Mauri Benitez (15-6), Sergi Espias (15-5) and Christofer Goncalves (15-4) all have 15 wins to their name and are tied for the team lead in singles. Of the four, however, Asmar and Espias are the team leaders in dual victories at four apiece.
 
In doubles play, the top doubles team of Goncalves and Flores are atop the wins list with a 14-4 mark while Benitez and Stijn de Haan are just behind them with a 13-6 record. But, the No. 2 doubles tandem of Benitez and de Haan own a 6-1 record in dual play to Goncalves and Flores' record of 5-2. Meanwhile the No. 3 doubles team of Asmar and Menard are 5-0 in dual action.
