LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico State men's tennis team fought off host UNLV as much as it could on Saturday afternoon, but wound up falling to the Rebels 4-2 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Â
NM State's (3-3) top doubles pair of
Christofer Goncalves and
Luis Flores bounced back on Saturday with a 6-4 victory against UNLV's (2-2) Alexandr Cozbinov and Courtney Lock. The No. 2 doubles tandem of
Stijn de Haan and
Mauri Benitez finished off the doubles point for the Aggies with a tough 7-6 (8-6) win.
Â
UNLV knotted things up in singles action after Flores was bested by his opponent 6-2, 6-2 on court No. 2. The Aggies went down 2-1 shortly after when de Haan, who played at the top singles spot in place of Goncalves, lost 6-0, 6-4.
Â
Louis Menard tied the match up at 2-2 when he ousted Jordan Saur in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 at the sixth singles slot. Eric Samuelsson gave UNLV the lead once more after he defeated
Enrique Asmar 7-5, 6-4 on court No. 4.
Â
The Rebels handed the Aggies the 4-2 loss not too long after that at No. 3 singles when
