TUCSON, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Arizona on Saturday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

The Aggies (9-6) saw the Wildcats strike first in doubles play as the home team picked up wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, for the doubles point and 1-0 lead.

New Mexico State's deficit grew to 2-0 after the start of singles play with
Christofer Goncalves defeated by Igor Karpovets 6-3, 6-0. The Wildcats (15-8) took a 3-0 edge against NM State moments later when Alejandro Reguant bested
Enrique Asmar 6-2, 6-1 before clinching the match on court No. 5.

However, the Aggies didn't back down and picked up their first point when freshman
Louis Menard took down Shoti Meparidze 6-4, 6-3 on court No. 6. Arizona recorded another point with a win at No. 2 singles before
Sergi Espias put another point on the board for NM State with a tough 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-8 win on court No. 3.

The Aggies will get a few days rest back at home and prepare with Western Athletic Conference play set to begin next Thursday, March 29, in Kansas City. The first WAC cluster will pit NM State against UT Rio Grande Valley (March 29) before facing Chicago State (March 30) and Seattle U (March 31).
