@NMStateSwimDive In Second Place After Day Three of WAC Championships

Aggies post solid third day at the WAC Championships as they move from fourth place to second place.

HOUSTON – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team sits in second place after the third day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships with 407 points. Northern Arizona leads the way with 568.5 points.

"We started the meet with a really good morning session." Said associate head coach Rachel Judge. "We had a number of girls make it to A finals and B finals and every point matters. The girls have been really good at handling the emotional energy that comes with competing in a championship format. Our relays performed well even with all the nervousness and excitement that comes with that NAU is tough to beat but we've been chipping away and the final day is historically our best day."

The night's first final featured Lauren Wood and Lanie McAlpin competing in the 400 IM. After posting the second-fastest time in the preliminary round (4:23.69), Wood finished fourth in the final with a time of 4:22.02. McAlpin finished in seventh at 4:27.37.

Then, Reagan Nentwich (54.82) and Katherine Harston (55.27) placed fourth and fifth in the preliminary round of the 100 Fly. In the final, Nentwich posted a 54.49 to finish third while Harston (55.84) finished seventh. Sina Wegel and Grace Laporte both qualified for the 200 Free final with Wegel (1:50.53) taking sixth place and Laporte (1:50.77) placing seventh.

The 100 Breast final saw defending champion Hanna McGowan touch fifth at 1:02.38. Ashley Reynolds earned a second-place finish in the event as she recorded a 1:01.89. Next, Alix Knagg, who battled injuries all season finished in fourth place in the 100 Back with a time of 55.74 while Nentwich placed fifth at 55.90.

Raina Brommer and MacKinna Hauff contested the platform event. Brommer earned 228.60 points in the preliminary, the third-highest score in that round and was the only Aggie diver to make it to the final. In the final, Brommer improved her score and recorded a 239.05 over five dives for a third place finish, her second top-three performance at WAC Championships. Her 239.05 points  broke the school record of 233.75.

"Raina ending her career with third place in the platform event is an awesome way for her to end her career," Judge added.

The New Mexico State swimming and diving team wraps up the WAC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, March 2. Coverage of preliminary rounds begins at approximately 9:30 a.m. (MT) on Facebook live. Finals are set to stream live on the WAC Digital Network starting at approximately 4:45 p.m.
