Lake Charles, La. - The NM State Aggies lost game two, 6-7, of their four-game series against McNeese in Lake Charles, La. Aggies managed to tie the game up on two separate occasions but were unable to take the lead late in the game.
After a scoreless first inning, Steve Solorzano singled up the middle for the first Aggie hit of the game. Following the hit the Aggies next three up all got out with two flyouts and one strikeout.
In the bottom of the third, starting pitcher Josh Sharman went three up three down with one strikeout, one flyout and one groundout to keep the game tied at zero.
In the top of the fourth Mitch Namie managed to record the Aggies' second hit of the day with a single to right field. Freshman Solorzano got his second hit of the day with a single to third base after Namie advanced to second on a wild pitch.
With both Namie and Solorzano on base, catcher Nick Gore hit a two-run double to left center to give the Aggies the lead. The scoring wouldn't stop there as Edwin Martinez-Pagani got his first RBI of the season, bringing home Gore.
The Aggies took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth, recording three runs on four hits with the help of an error by the Cowboys, stranding three runners.
In the bottom of the fifth Aaron Treloar came into relief for Sharman. Sharman's final line was 4.1 innings pitched, six hits, five runs, four strikeouts, and two walks.
The Cowboys managed to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a two-run lead over the Aggies. That two-run lead was quickly shortened thanks to a solo home run by Preston Godfrey in the top of the sixth.
In the top of the sixth, the Aggies tied the game up thanks to an error committed by the Cowboys shortstop that scored Martinz-Pagani. The run was unearned but was enough to even the score.
In the bottom of the seventh, McNeese took the lead again on a sacrifice fly that scored one run.
In the top of the eighth the Aggies tied the game up once again. The inning started with a triple from Nick Gore. He was then brought home by Titus Dumitru, his first RBI of the season.
The Cowboys took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double. This hit was the last run scored by either team. It would be the winning run of the ballgame, as the Aggies could not force one more run in the top of the ninth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Nick Gore hit two extra-base hits. One double and one triple with two RBIs.
- Freshman Steve Solorzano went 3-6 with three singles.
- 15 different Aggies saw in-game action.
