LAWRENCE, Kan. – The New Mexico State Cross Country Aggies ran well on Saturday morning at the 2015 Rim Rock Classic at Rim Rock Farms hosted by the University of Kansas.
The Aggies placed sixth in the women's race, and seventh in the men's race.
The women were led by sophomore Christina Amberg of Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado who covered the 6k course in 22:49.3 to place 32nd overall in the field of 125 runners.
Sophomore
Mikayla Pulliam of Los Alamos, N.M., was the second NM State runner across, posting a 23:21.4 in 48th, with freshman
Regina Marquez of Anthony, N.M./Santa Teresa next in 52nd at 23:27.8 and sophomore Cassandra Amberg of Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado 54th in 23:29.1.
The Aggies wrapped up their team score with freshman
Regan Werito of Ruidoso, N.M., 71st overall in 24:20.5. Freshman
Nichole Gomez of Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola ran a 24:49.0, sophomore
Jacqueline DuBois of Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty posted a 25:15.3 and sophomore
Sofia Bali of Las Cruces, N.M./Centennial rounded out the runners in 25:39.7.
Host Kansas won the women's event with 23 points, with Rice second with 50 points and Grand Canyon third with 104 points. The Jayhawks Sharon Lokedi won the women's race with a time of 20:42.4.
NM State sophomore Jeremy Santistevan of Pojoaque, N.M./Pojoaque Valley placed 25th in the 8k men's race to pace the Aggies, clocking a time of 24:59.4.
Junior
Marco Perez of El Paso, Texas placed 48th overall in a time of 25:35.1, with junior
Ricardo De Santiago of El Paso, Texas was 58th in 25:55.0, junior
Stephen Wallace of El Paso, Texas/Eastwood 66th in 26:10.5 and junior
David Colmenero of El Paso, Texas/Horizon 67th in 26:10.7.
Freshman
Aaron Valenzuela of Belen, N.M., ran 26:17.2 and senior
Jason Saiz of Lubbock, Texas/Christ the King Cathedral School came in at 26:51.9. Sophomore
Brett Fenton of Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva ran a 27:04.2 and senior
Carlos Ortega of Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's was timed in 27:33.9.
Iowa State won the men's team title scoring 35 points, with Kansas second with 47 points and Nebraska third with 71 points. The Jayhawks Evan Landes won the men's race with a 23:55.6.
The Aggies run again in two weeks when they travel to Sunnyvale, Calif., for the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 17.
