WICHITA, Kan. – ­The New Mexico State men's tennis team was outmatched by No. 67 Wichita State on Sunday at the Genesis Health Club, falling to the Shockers 7-0.
 
Starting the day off at doubles, NM State's dropped the match on court No. 3 when Stijn de Haan and Mauri Benitez were defeated 6-1. Later on at doubles No. 1, Strahinja Trecakov and Christofer Goncalves were unable to fend off the Shockers' (7-4) 38th-ranked pair of Tin Ostojic and Jocelyn Devilliers and fell 6-3.
 
Enrique Asmar and Nicholas Springer left their match unfinished with the score tied at 4-4 against the WSU's pair, who was ranked No. 22 in the nation.
 
The Aggies (1-6) dropped the top two spots in singles play against Wichita State's top two players – both of whom were ranked No. 95 and No. 121 respectively.
 
Devilliers delivered the clinching punch for the Shockers when he ousted de Haan 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
 
NM State would fall in succession on courts No. 4, 5 and 6 soon after to complete the sweep for Wichita State.
 
The Aggies now return home and hope to regroup before they host their home-opener against Western New Mexico at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, at the NMSU Tennis Center.
