LARAMIE, Wyo. – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team was bested by Wyoming in a dual meet on the road Friday night, 178-117.

"Coming up to race Wyoming in Laramie is a challenge for every team that does it," said associate head coach
Rachel Judge. "Despite the challenges our group managed to give great efforts, maintain their composure and have some excellent team energy."

The meet began with the 200 Medley relay in which the Aggie squad of
Lanie McAlpin,
Hanna McGowan,
Reagan Nentwich and
Neza Kocijan finished third in 1:49.51, just behind Wyoming's second place team (1.49.27).

Next, in the 1000 Free,
Moana Houde-Camirand finished third with a time of 11:25.76 while
Mikaela Miele came in fourth at 11:37.33.

The 200 Yard free saw freshman
Lauren Hemburrow win her first collegiate race, finishing first with a time of 1:57.18, ahead of Shannon Chelsvig of Wyoming who finished in 1:58.40.
Grace Laporte (2:01.89) and
Sina Wegel (2:02.18) finished fifth and sixth respectively.

In the 100 Back a quartet of Aggies finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in
Barbora Krizanova (1:02.12), Nentwich (1:02.30),
Mackenzie Baird (1:03.85) and
Anabel Ivanov (1:06.56).

Then, NM State nearly swept the podium in the 100 Breast with McGowan and
Lauren Wood going 1-2 with times of 1:06.62 and 1:06.87 respectively.
Ashley Reynolds finished fourth in 1:08.07 just behind Wyoming's Catri Clarke (1:07.61).

In the 200 Fly, McAlpin finished second (2:12.07) and teammates
Katherine Harston (2:13.01) and Miele (2:31.12) finished fourth and sixth respectively.

The 50 Free saw Kocijan finish second with a time of 24.79, just behind Lainee Jones of Wyoming (24.62).

In the 1m Dive,
MacKinna Hauff finished second, recording a score of 247.95 while
Sheridan Decker finished fifth with a score of 211.35.

Hemburrow then finished second in the 100 Free with a time of 54.38. Kocijan (55.38) and
Airam Oliva-Aun (55.60) finished fourth and fifth.

McAlpin (2:14.10), Ivanov (2:15.25) and Wegel (2:19.94) went 3-4-5 in the 200 Back.

Wood picked up another win for New Mexico State in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:25.39 while Reynolds touched fifth at 2:35.99.

In the 500 Free, Harston (5:28.12), Laporte (5:30.78) and Houde-Camirand (5:39.26) finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Then, Hemburrow placed third in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.41. Nentwich and Oliva-Aun went fifth and sixth with times of 1:00.16 and 1:02.14 respectively.

The 3m Dive saw Hauff place third (244.28) and Decker sixth (183.68).

"Breaststroke continues to be an area where we can really shine in dual meets and we had some tough racing from our freshmen," Judge added. "Getting recovered tonight and ready to race UNC tomorrow is another strategic part of this road trip."

The Aggies are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 12, as they travel to Greeley, Colo. to take on Western Athletic Conference foe Northern Colorado at 11:30 a.m. (MT).
