Price was a member of the men's basketball team from 1958-61 where he led the Aggies to three Border Conference Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. He earned First-Team All-Border Conference honors his first year with the Aggies after averaging a double-double with 19 points and 12.6 rebounds to go with a deadly .521 shooting clip. His 12.6 boards per game in 1958-59 is third-best in program history. He then went onto average 12.2 points and 8.9 boards during the 1959-60 season  before wrapping up his collegiate career with 13.4 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game with a .477 shooting percentage. His 22 rebounds against Evansville in 1958 are still in the top-20 at New Mexico State. On Feb. 7, 2008, Price was a member of the inaugural NM State Ring of Honor alongside Lou Henson and Sam Lacey.

After his collegiate career, Price was selected in the sixth round (55th overall) of the 1961 NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals. He then moved to Canada to play professional in Port Alberni alongside former NM State teammate Vincent Knight with the IGA Grocers. Price and Knight helped the IGA Grocers become just the second Canadian team to win three-straight national championships. Price's squad was then inducted in the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Unfortunately, Price would not live to see this honor as he passed in 1989 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Price is survived by his wife Deanne, daughter Allyson and son Tyrone.
